Zooey Deschanel Gets Married!

Zooey Deschanel, Ben Gibbard Steve Granitz/Getty Images
We interrupt the Emmy news to bring you this: Zooey Deschanel got hitched.
The Elf star swapped vows Saturday with Death Cab for Cutie driver Ben Gibbard near Seattle, E! News has learned.
Deschanel, 29, and Gibbard, 33, dated for almost a year before he popped the question last December.
Death Cab's latest single, "Meet Me on the Equinox," will be featured on the New Moon soundtrack.
Deschanel, who kicked off her own musical career last year as part of the duo She & Him, recently got a custom meal made for her on Top Chef Masters and is currently starring in (500) Days of Summer—as a woman who believes true love doesn't exist.
As if.

Late News: Photographic Evidence That Zooey Deschanel Is Really Doing Bones!

Bones, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel Greg Gayne/FOX
Bones: Approximately 6 million years after we all started begging her, Zooey Deschanel is finally guest starring on her big sister Emily Deschanel's show, Bones. Zooey plays Brennan's wacky cousin Margaret in "The Goop in the Girl," which airs Thursday, Dec. 10. Can't wait! (Check out our TV Stunt Casting gallery for another shot of Zooey D.'s long-awaited TV gig.)
• Coming Soon: Fox just released the premiere dates for its midseason shows. Possibly unbelievably bad reincarnation drama Past Life premieres on Feb. 11, wait-and-see actioner Human Target premieres Jan. 17 (it has Mark Valley and Chi McBride, but still...), and probably totally cute comedy Sons of Tucson premieres March 14. Any thoughts from the peanut gallery on this trifecta?
Lie To Me: Executive producer Shawn Ryan tweets, "#LieToMe picked up for a back 9! Thanks for all the support everyone!" Now, Q's for you LTM fans: (a) What do you love most about this show? and (b) What kind of scoop do you want on it, if any?
The Oprah Winfrey Show: The times they are a-changin'. A Harpo Productions rep tells

Precious, Summer, Gwyneth Up for Indie Oscars

Precious, Gabourey Sidibe Anne Marie Fox/ Lionsgate
Well isn't that Precious.
The nominations are in, and if last night's Gotham Awards didn't signal the start of the ever-lengthening awards show season, this morning's naming of nominees for the 25th Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards surely did.
Leading the pack is a film that will no doubt rack up the column inches between now and the Oscars, as the Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry-backed Precious scored a leading five nominations, tying for the most potential pieces of hardware with the Brit-packed The Last Station.
Both are up for Best Feature, and will vie against hipster favorite (500) Days of Summer, Amreeka and Sin Nombre for the night's top honor.
As expected, Precious star Gabourey Sidibe scored a nod for Best Actress, while Mo'Nique nabbed a Supporting Actress nomination as her mean mama. As per usual, the leading lady categories—as with the men's—are star-studded powerhouses, as Hollywood's finest were once again rewarded for their low-budget slumming.
Competing against Sidibe are The Last Station's Helen Mirren, Downloading Nancy's Maria Bello, Amreeka's Nisreen Faour and Two Lovers' Gwyneth Paltrow (her infamous bearded costar was mysteriously missing from the honor's list).
On the men's side, Summer's besotted beau Joseph Gordon-Levitt scored a nod (sadly the quirky object of his affection, Zooey Deschanel, did not), as did Crazy Heart's Jeff Bridges, A Single Man's Colin Firth, The Vicious Kind's Adam Scott and Goodbye Solo's Souleymane Sy Savane.
Teleprompters, get your phonetic spelling ready.
Meanwhile, if you like your Independent Spirit Awards with a bit more kookiness, look no further than the eclectic list of Supporting Actor nominees.
Leading the pack is Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, up now for his role in Gentlemen Broncos, The Messenger's Woody Harrelson, The Last Station's Christopher Plummer, and Christian McKay, the titular filmmaker to Zac Efron's "me" in Me and Orson Welles.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the notoriously laid-back ceremony, and it hasn't made it out of its quarterlife crisis change-free. This year, the awards show will be held March 5, a Friday night, rather than its usual time on the afternoon of the Saturday before the Oscars.
The location, too, has been tweaked. Whereas the bash is usually held in a tent on the Santa Monica beach, this time around the indie kings and queens will gather in downtown Los Angeles—albeit still in a tent, just on a rooftop instead of on sand.

What Does Zooey Deschanel's Guest Gig on Bones Tonight Mean for the B&B Romance?

Bones, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel Greg Gayne/FOX
Prepare yourselves for excessive cuteness, TV fans, because tonight is the night when Zooey Deschanel guest stars on Bones with big sis Emily Deschanel! This very special Christmas episode features Zooey D. as Brennan's long-lost cousin Margaret, a return visit from Ryan O'Neal as Brennan's miscreant father and some heartwarming developments between Brennan and Booth (David Boreanaz).
The sisters talked to reporters recently about "The Girl in the Goop," and here's what Emily spilled about how this family-oriented installment of Bones changes the romance between our favorite forensic anthropologist and her favorite G-man:
So what brings B&B closer together (and maybe even close together under the mistletoe?), according to Emily Deschanel: "The episode brings up a lot of questions for Booth and Brennan. Any time characters have a breakthrough on some level, that either Booth or Brennan has some kind of breakthrough, then that brings both of us together. And you'll see in the episode Brennan has a new level of compassion and starts to have a paradigm shift in how she's looking at certain situations. So Booth holds her hand through that. When you go through something, it changes you; it's profound in a way. Christmas brings people together, so as much as Brennan resists that aspect, she usually ends up together with people in the end on Christmas." Awww, all in the holiday spirit!
Now, how did this family reunion come about in the first place? According to Emily D., "[Bones show runner] Hart Hanson came with the idea. He had the idea for a Christmas episode and told me some things about it, that [Zooey] would be my relative, one of the two living relatives in my life."
And after Zooey D. comes by and stirs up that "breakthrough" for B&B, is that the last we'll ever see of her? Zooey said, "I don't die at the end of the episode." Series producer Emily D. told baby sis Zooey, "You're one of my favorite employees. We'd love to have you back. Anytime. I think it's open-ended for a reason. We'll see. It took us five seasons to figure out when Zooey could come on the show, and it may take five more seasons."

Meryl Streep vs. The Hangover?!

The Hangover, Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms Warner Bros.
Oscar Watch
Meryl Streep, blah blah blah.
Certain names you can count on come statuette season. We wanted to know what might surprise us come tomorrow's Golden Globe nominations.
A lot, was essentially the answer we got from awards guru Tom O'Neil, of the Los Angeles Times' Gold Derby.
"You can always count on jaw-droppers among the Globe nominations," O'Neil said.
Like, for instance, how about a Best Motion Picture nomination for a film that a whole bunch of people actually saw—and liked?
Yes, that would be quite The Hangover.
"Normally, Globers don't appreciate Yankee frat-boy humor," O'Neil said. "They didn't nominate 40-Year-Old Virgin or Knocked Up, but they love The Hangover."
They love it so much O'Neil actually capitalized love, as in LOVE.
Being a comedy, the bacchanal-boasting blockbuster—certified Sunday as one of 2009's best by the American Film Institute—would compete in the Musical/Comedy category alongside the expected likes of Streep's Julie & Julia.
Here are some other blogosphere predictions that caught our eye, not because the films or actors aren't deserving, but because we've come to think awards-show voters only think people named Meryl are deserving (not that they're not, but still…):
(500) Days of Summer: Will this tender dramedy have its heart broken by Globe voters? Awards Circuit, for one, doesn't think so—it's slotting (500) Days in the Comedy/Musical best-film category, and it's figuring on stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel to be up for acting honors. (The AFI, for what it's worth, took a pass on the movie.)
• Mariah Carey: Wait, is this the Grammys? Nope. Alt Film Guide, for one, is calling on the songbird to snag a Best Supporting Actress nod for going undercover in awards-season favorite Precious. (And the Winner even has Carey down as a "major threat" to snag an Oscar nod.)
• Maya Rudolph: Wouldn't it be cool if one of the cooler Saturday Night Live alums were recognized as being the best thing in the annoying, if admirable, Away We Go? Awards Circuit thinks it's going to happen for Rudolph in the Comedy/Musical lead-actress category. (By the by, she's already picked up a Best Actress nom from the Washington, D.C., critics.)
• Sandra Bullock: Oops. Forgot. We're not surprised about that anymore

Who Was Snubbed by the Globes? (Hint: Did You Star in Avatar or The Hangover?)

Ed Helms, Heather Graham, The Hangover Warner Bros. Pictures
Do you know who stars in Avatar? Do you know who directed Precious? Golden Globe voters apparently don't, either.
A bunch of blue-faced folk and Lee Daniels, the answers to the above questions, respectively, were among today's MIAs, as were Zooey Deschanel and every human (and animal) who appeared in The Hangover.
James Cameron's Avatar did well with four nods, but scored none for its actors, regardless of their hue.
Daniels was the only director with a film in the best drama race to not snag a Best Director nod. On the flip side, Clint Eastwood was the only Best Director nominee to not snag a best drama nom for his film, the sorta-snubbed Invictus.
Deschanel didn't make the cut in the comedy category, even though her film, (500) Days of Summer, and her peer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, did.
And while The Hangover made awards season safe for R-rated raunch, it didn't get Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms or any of its actors seats at the grown-up table.
More Star Trek snubs—and District 9 surprises:
Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen made more money than any 2009 movie, period. Its reward? Um, did we mention it made a lot of money?
The difference between this year and last is that Transformers wasn't expected to be a player, and The Dark Knight, which infamously came away with only one nod, was. If there was a big surprise today, it's that the nominations went pretty much exactly as expected.
Star Trek, great reviews, great box office and all, got zip. Then again, it wasn't "supposed" to get anything. Please see above.
New Moon, great, um, hair and all, got zip. Then again, it wasn't "supposed" to get anything, either. Please see above.
Globe voters loved Borat. As for Brüno? Eh, not so much. (Zero nominations.)
Globe voters love Peter Jackson. Even King KongKing Kong!—scored him a Best Director nod. So, one can only presume they really didn't like The Lovely Bones, which did well for Stanley Tucci, but nobody else involved.
District 9 qualifies as both a snub and a surprise. The little sci-fi movie that could was shut out of best drama but welcomed in Best Screenplay. (Hey, Globe voters got to show Jackson a little love, after all—he produced!)
The Proposal's Ryan Reynolds can relate to the Deschanel dilemma. His romantic-comedy partner, Sandra Bullock, was nominated for the film; he wasn't.
• Mariah Carey will always have the good buzz of appearing, sans her diva hair, in Precious. She just won't have the long-shot Globe nomination to go with it.
Avatar and Precious, both up for best drama, were both denied for Best Screenplay. If that happens at the Oscars, both films' Best Picture dreams presumably would be all but dashed.
The Hurt Locker is Avatar, with soldiers instead of blue people: Not a single acting nod. (It did, however, get a screenplay nod.)
Michael Jackson's This Is It wasn't snubbed; it wasn't eligible.
Monsters vs. Aliens made more money than any 2009 big-screen 'toon, save Up. Its reward? The same as Transformers', Star Trek's and New Moon's.

Zooey Deschanel Puts Wronged Foot Forward

Zooey Deschanel John Shearer/Getty Images for The Hollywood Film Festival
At least she got a vegetarian, gluten-free birthday feast for doing Top Chef.
But Zooey Deschanel claims she got stiffed on the $1.5 million she was promised by trendy footwear maker Steve Madden Ltd. in exchange for endorsing a product line for two years.
View the lawsuit
According to her breach-of-contract lawsuit filed Friday in L.A. Superior Court, Deschanel's agent initially brokered a $2 million deal for her in August that would allow Steve Madden to use her name and image to market and sell "Zooey shoes & accessories."
A few days later, the company said a retailer wasn't onboard with the deal as it was and lowered the amount to $1.5 million, which Deschanel's reps agreed to, the suit continues.
Then, the complaint alleges, on Oct. 13, Steve Madden "breached and repudiated" the new deal without explanation and refused to pay—and stil hasn't paid, though Deschanel tried to hold up her end of the bargain.
The (500) Days of Summer star is asking for $1.5 million, plus interest and reimbursement for her legal fees.
