Emmy Awards Fug or Fab Carpet: Kate Walsh

So, this dress on Kate Walsh photographed better than I thought it would:


 

I actually kind of like it here, but when we were watching the broadcast, there was a lot of, "OH HONEY NO," and this is why:

I do love a nice slim suit, so apart from the velvet jacket seeming a bit heavy, I think Kate Walsh looks pretty chic here.

Of course, when I say "here," I mean, "in this photo, from this angle." Because like so many things -- Top Chef challenges, any episode of Murder, She Wrote, Marilyn Manson -- this outfit is not what it might first seem.

People's Choice Award Well Played: Kate Walsh

I must admit, this spangly thing on Kate Walsh totally appeals to the magpie in me:

I'm sure it weighs like 15 pounds, but she looks so kicky and cute it in, I feel like it's probably worth it. Besides, I feel like if your dress is really heavy, it's basically like you're doing your weight-lifting routine just by walking around, which saves countless hours at the gym, not to mention the precious fossil fuels burned by transporting yourself to and from the gym. Beaded gowns, see, are actually really good for the environment like that. I think I will buy myself one and call it CONSERVATION.

Fug or Fab: Kate Walsh

I am not sure what's going on here with Kate Walsh:

a) I have this swimsuit cover-up. I bought it for $12.99 at Forever 21. It's not a real outfit.

b) She is wearing zero make-up. Behold:

I actually think this is pretty cute:

But I have one problem with it, and now that I've noticed it, it's driving me nuts: the belt, plus that ruffle, plus how low the top of the bodice is, totally chops her upper half into too many bits, making her proportions look -- as I used to say in college -- all wonkus. Girlfriend needs to yank the top up about half an inch and move the belt down a hair, because as it is, I'm transfixed by the vast amount of chest we're seeing, and not in the good way. I think that would help the overall look here -- but what do you think? Does this even need unfugging? Ought it be tossed into the fire and burnt to a shamed crisp? Or is it awesome, just as it is? Please do weigh in:
